Sherman Roosevelt Tribble, PhD

The Reverend Dr. Sherman Roosevelt Tribble is the Former President of Hosanna Bible College in Durham, North Carolina. He also served as the proud pastor of the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church of Durham, NC.
He has had the privilege of pastoring the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ossining, NY; First Baptist Church Capitol Hill in Nashville, TN; was the organizing pastor of the New Visions Baptist Church also of Nashville; and the Mount Sinai Baptist Church of Durham, NC. In total he served for 35 years in pastoral ministry and 48 years in Gospel ministry
Reverend
Dr. Tribble has taught in a number of academic settings such as Fisk University where he once served as an United Negro College Fund Visiting Scholar, Vanderbilt University, American Baptist College, Shaw Divinity School, United Theological Seminary, New York Theological Seminary, Apex School of Theology, and Hosanna Bible College.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts, at Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee with a double major in Religion and Business Management and a minor in Music Performance. He completed his undergraduate studies in three years with the distinction, magna cum laude. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree from Howard University School of Divinity, Washington, D.C. While there he earned the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence and was a Benjamin E. Mays Fellow for the Fund for Theological Education.
He has also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in African American Religious History in the Joint Garrett-Northwestern Program, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
Scholar
This minister, historian, and musician has an avid interest in understanding the nuances of the African-American religious heritage, and his book, Images of a Preacher: A Study of the Reverend Joseph Harrison Jackson, reflects that abiding interest. Dr. Tribble served as the general editor of the hymnal published by the Sunday School Publishing Board, Total Praise: Songs and Other Worship Resources for Every Generation.
He has also written a number of other scholarly and popular religious articles. Dr. Tribble also recorded a CD entitled, “The Heart and Soul of a Preacher Musician.” Dr. Tribble had the privilege of singing with the renowned, Fisk Jubilee Singers. He has even had the opportunity to appear with Dr. Bobby Jones.
During his career, he has performed many recital and concerts world-wide including performances in Europe and Carnegie Hall in New York, NY. All total, he served for thirty-five years in pastoral ministry and forty-seven years in Christian ministry.

Dr. Tribble is married to his soul mate and friend, Reverend Vanessa Upshire-Tribble. They have
five adult children and ten grandchildren.
He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.
